Lag is a monster both softcore and Hardcore deal with. However lag and disconnects can be deadly in Hardcore. Looking at the D3 forums would have a person thinking this is a regular occurrence, in fact it’s one of the most cited reasons people don’t play hardcore. So is it true? Are disconnects so rampant? Or are we making mountains out of molehills?
In my D3 time, both Beta and Release, I’ve been disconnected once. I was in the middle of act 1 clearing out one of the defiled crypts in the cemetery when I went down. My ISP was down and after quickly reconnecting I rushed on to find..my monk still alive. Sure it would have sucked but as I play on wireless, I knew the risks involved. Having come from the old days of dial-up hardcore D2 I knew what it was like to lose characters to rogue disconnects. However that fear has been largely abated in D3.
One of the major causes of uproar at the moment in the question of the disconnect timer itself. When you are disconnected from the server it isn’t an immediate boot out of danger but the server must recognize that you are gone. It should be within 1 second. But if there is high latency, or you just cast a ton of spells and a flood of packets is still reaching the server, it could be longer. Top range would be 3-4 seconds. Should not take any longer than that…and that’s only in extreme circumstances. Which means in the worst scenario you could be out there for 15 ( five for d/c plus the 10 second timer)seconds or so. Granted that’s enough to kill most players but it’s a far cry from the alternative.

Old network card drivers and settings may affect your connection in our games. Troubleshooting steps to help you connect to Diablo III. Diablo III Performance Issues.
Let’s say we were to go back to an instant disconnect. No timer, just disconnect and done. How would you die in Hardcore? It’s simple, you wouldn’t. Diablo now isn’t full of immediate deaths, in fact most of the time you can avoid death for awhile even while trapped. If an insta-disconnect feature was put in you could just drop out at the sight of half health and come back to fight again. Welcome back to the days of Alt-f4 in D2 and if I recall correctly, we weren’t that found of it. The sad truth of this system is that it will be far more advantageous to botters and farmers than it ever would be to the average player.
Disconnects on blizzards end however are just as mentioned above. If blizzards servers go down you’re in the clear. No timer, no lag, just a get out of death free card. So that begs the questions is Blizzard killing you or your own ISP? If you fear it might be on your end check out this link or of course take to the forums and accuse wildly!

Related to this articleHello guys, I'm currently experiencing that after the 2.5 patch i couldnt get into the game screen after selecting character, showing network disconnect, eventhough I have tried reinstalling diablo and battle.net, and my internet is going well. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? thank you!
Having this same issue

Having this same issue
yeah guess im not the only one facing this issue, dont think it's my connection problem cz other game is running normal and even diablo 3 before patch 2.5
If you aren't able to connect to the game after the patch, it could mean the patch data itself was corrupted. This isn't happening for everybody, but can those of you affected:
- 1. Temporarily disable your antivirus programs (to make sure they don't interfere with any of the installation/patches)
2. Repair the game
3. Close down background applications, especially ones that change your connection path like proxies/VPNs
Try launching after all that and let me know how that goes!
i have reinstalled with no anti-virus and still unable to get past verifacation pls. help i need to pay lol. but seriously need this fixed i have uninstalled wow becouse i couldnt log in ,my battle net hasnt worked for months now and now i cant get on diablo
wfp007,
You probably have a totally different issue if battle.net is giving you problems too. What's battle.net doing? Are you even able to log in? Do you get any error messages?

Dear Drakuloth,
I've tried these steps and repaired my game in battlenet:
1. Temporarily disable your antivirus programs (to make sure they don't interfere with any of the installation/patches)
2. Repair the game
3. Close down background applications, especially ones that change your connection path like proxies/VPNs
But none of these above solve my problem.. Sorry for causing trouble.PapayaTan97,
No problem! This is what we're here for. :D Apart from that, let's try doing some things to clear your network caches out. One of them may have some old or corrupt data.
- Power Cycle your Connection - clears your router/modem caches
Flush your DNS Cache - clears your computer's caches
If none of this works, we can check into the connection itself using an MTR test.
Diablo 3 Disconnecting From Server
- 1. Go to the WinMTR.NET site and download the file from the right hand side of the page. (The purple button.)
2. Double click WinMTR.NET file in your download folder
3. Enter the following in the 'Host' blank:
24.105.30.129
4. Click Start and let the test run for 5 minutes while having trouble with your connection
5. Click Stop
6. Click Copy text to clipboard
7. Paste your WinMTR test on your next post.
8. Repeat steps 3-7 for the IP 24.105.62.129
If you post the results of that to your next post, we can look to see if there's some kind of problem between your house and our servers.
wfp007,
Okay, that's a totally different issue. Can you please post about your issue in the Battle.net Tech Forums? Feel free to link me to your new thread and I'll take a look next time I get a chance (if nobody else gets to you first!)
What is wrong blizz ? every single time you launch a new patch the second maintenance update or bug update either cause lag or crash of the game. Go do some statistic am i said wrong about it. Always the coming update after launching new patch update will cause lag or crash playing game.
Surprisingly..they thought everyone are TEch ppl.....asking most do this and that...pathetic.

Appreciate for you help ^^
I was able to play fine and now keep dcing since I switched to patch 2.5 a couple days ago. I wonder if it may be related to windowed fullscreen. When switching to 2.5 I already had windowed fullscreen enabled. I deleted diablo and reinstalled trying to fix the issues. I played 3 bounties fine and went to change options to windowed fullscreen and dced after I applied, but before I could even accept.
-During gameplay it seems fine except:
1) laggy when going to new region.
2) exiting game
3) exiting App
4) changing options
Anytime I do 2-4 then the game disconnects then the App freezes and stops responding. (The only way to get out is to go to task manager and close.)

Error code 1016. Running solo right on T7 - no issues, all green bars then sudden DC with this error message. When I finally reconnected, my HC DH was dead. NOT COOL. Been playing this char for over a year, being careful with everything and to lose all my work for something like this... makes me very upset.

Yea honestly I know playing HC you take these risks but I just lost a char the other day because of frozen screen. I have been looking forward to 2.5 for months but now I don't even plan on playing season 10. It just seems too strange to me that I have had no problems with Diablo 3 basically ever especially in last 2 months. I have hundreds of hours played last 2 months and the only time I lagged was the first day of season 9 (assuming because high population on server). But other than that... nothing. Then all of a sudden after 2.5 release.... lag... frozen screen. d/cs. And then I see many other people experiencing the same thing as me. Just have no confidence in playing the game right now. Not sure what happened but seems like something got messed up with 2.5. Seems too coincidental that my computer all of a sudden can't run this one game... after being able to run it easily for months. Its nice to see tech support trying to help people but I don't see how all of our computers all of a sudden are messed up when the common theme is patch 2.5..... maybe there was a windows 10 update that day? Pretty sure I saw a MAC user having problems too though.
^ I agree and I'm on windows 7 and also having all these problems with error code 1016!
dissconect problem too in windows 10 professional . However I have all Blizzard games and this issue only hapening in Diablo after patch 2.5.0
I am getting dced when I use portal in Diablo after patch 2.5...getting really irritated with it and the lagging!!!! I have lost so many charms from completing bounties and getting dced going back to town. Please get this fixed!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I am using Windows 7 HP
